28-day keto challenge review (2020): Is it worth it? My verdict

The keto diet is among the many diets entering the world of fitness.

But unlike other fad diets, the keto diet is focused on shifting your metabolic processes so your body burns fat for fuel instead of carbs.

Ultimately, it’s not really a shortcut to losing weight; it’s a process for effectively burning fat.

When done right, the ketogenic might just be what you need to shed off the couple extra pounds that snuck up on you.

I did the keto diet because a friend recommended it to me and because I was curious (and doubtful at the same time) about all the hype surrounding it.

28 days later, I feel younger, stronger, and lighter than ever before. I know it’s a little dramatic to call it life-changing, but that’s exactly how it feels to me.

Why I Challenged Myself to the 28-Day Keto Challenge

I’m not the fittest guy in the world, but I’ve always taken care of my body.

I watch what I eat, I hit the gym a few times a week, and I try to run an official 5k a few times a year.

But over the last few years I’ve noticed the pounds slowly clinging on, and my naturally lean physique gradually shifted into one with love handles and a muffin top.

Definitely not overweight or obese by any stretch of the imagination, but not what I wanted to be.

I’d heard about Keto before, but I never really seriously looked into it until a friend suggested that it would be the perfect lifestyle change for me.

My huge problem with fad diets is that they always felt so unsustainable, like I could never seriously find myself following their ridiculous limitations for a couple of days in a row, let alone several weeks or months.

But after looking into Keto and specifically the 28-Day Keto Challenge, I realized this was something I could incorporate into my life without too much pain (and I actually learned to prefer the Keto lifestyle over my regular calorie-counting one).

So let’s go into the 28-Day Keto Challenge: everything you need to know about it, and more.

Understanding Keto: What You Need to Know about Keto and the 28-Day Keto Challenge

What is Keto?

First and foremost: what is Keto? Keto diet is short for ketogenic diet, which is a diet that aims to change the natural way your body creates energy by burning fats instead of carbohydrates.

This is known as the metabolic state of ketosis, which the body switches into once it gets a different ratio of carbs to fat.

Essentially, the keto diet requires:

– Low carbs
– Moderate protein
– High fats

The body naturally uses carbohydrates to create energy, burning your excess carbs to give the body the daily energy it needs.

This is because carbs are usually quite abundant in the body, and we often eat a lot of it.

The body’s “sugar reserves” are made by the carbs we eat, and once we deplete those natural sugar reserves with low carb intake, the body needs to start breaking down something else to create its fuel, so it breaks down our stored fat.

By reducing your carbohydrate intake to less than 50 grams per day, the body starts shifting to the ketosis metabolic state, in which it uses fat instead of carbs to create energy.

Reaching the ketosis state takes just 3-4 days of steady keto dieting, and once you achieve it, you will start losing weight like crazy.

What are the benefits of keto?

The 28-Day Keto Challenge isn’t just for weight loss, although that might be the main reason why you would start to do it.

On top of helping you lose weight at a much quicker rate than ever before, the keto diet offers a number of health benefits, such as:

1) Easier weight loss: Faster weight loss and easier weight loss, because the keto diet reduces the body’s production of hunger-stimulating hormones, making it easier to stop yourself from eating

2) Heart health improvement: The keto diet forces you to eat healthy fats, getting your fat intake from foods like avocados rather than pork and fried dishes, meaning you take in less cholesterol and improve the condition of your heart with lower blood pressure

3) Neuroprotective benefits: Individuals who try the keto diet experience neuroprotective benefits, meaning their brain and nerve cells become protected and strengthened by the ketones, a certain molecule produced during ketosis

4) Improved sleep quality and mood: The natural weight loss from the keto diet doesn’t only reflect on the scale, but also in other areas of your life, such as your sleep and your general mood. You’ll find your sleep improving with the healthier state of your body, and your mood more consistent and positive

What is the 28-Day Keto Challenge?

The 28-Day Keto Challenge is your jumpstart into a lifetime of keto-ing, essentially.

It’s a 28-day plan that equips people with all the best keto-specific recipes they need to get through an entire month without breaking the keto diet, and you would be amazed at just how delicious the food can be.

This isn’t just a diet plan. The 28-Day Keto Challenge gives you a fundamental understanding of food science – from mastering macros to intermittent fasting styles to staying in ketosis – and cooking in the kitchen, with dozens of recipes for all times of the day (including guilt-free desserts!) that you can incorporate into your daily life like no big deal.

The biggest challenge of keto is the fact that the world around you doesn’t really support it. If you ever try to eat out, sticking to your keto diet can be a huge issue, and you might end up inconveniencing the friends and family you eat out with.

But the 28-Day Keto Challenge turns the unique keto diet into a reality that you can really live with, with easy (and yummy) recipes alongside educational content you need to keep your keto going no matter where you eat.

Who Is the 28-Day Keto Challenge For?

You might be interested in the 28-Day Keto Challenge if…

–   …you are looking to shed a few pounds and want a fun and new way of doing it

–   …you want to make huge changes to your lifestyle and body, not just for weight loss benefits but also for your overall health

–   …you’ve tried the keto diet in the past, but you can’t stick to it because you lack the right recipes and some fundamental tips

–   …your body is starting to feel unhealthy and you want a new and effective way of gaining back your fitness

–   …you want to lose weight without feeling like you’re on a restrictive diet, and you want to be able to eat yummy meals and desserts without messing your diet up

–   …you’re interested in learning more about food science to enrich your understanding of food and your body in the long-term, from macros to intermittent fasting

–   …you’ve done the keto diet in the past, and you want a structured plan that has worked with hundreds of thousands of people

–   …you want some really delicious avocado recipes!

Simply put, the 28-Day Keto Challenge is for anyone who wants to put in the effort and really commit to the keto lifestyle, if even just for four weeks.

The 28-Day Keto Challenge ensures that you do the keto diet the right way, because the point of this kind of short-term, metabolic-shifting diet in the first place is that you don’t change your lifestyle and eating habits forever.

It’s all about properly doing a short-term diet challenge for long-term benefits, and if you want to continue the ketosis state after your 28 days are done, then great.

If not, then at least you can lose a ton of weight along the way.

But here’s the thing: this program isn’t for you if you’re not willing to commit. At just $37, it’s not a huge investment by any means, but it’s still an investment.

The 28-Day Keto Challenge requires a lifestyle change for at least a month, and that means having the time to learn new recipes, buy the groceries and prepare the meals, and the perseverance to get through the “keto flu”, which I’ll discuss later.

What Makes This 28-Day Keto Challenge Different?

I may not be a nutritionist but I do have a rudimentary understanding of how food science works.

I know that in order to lose weight and change your body composition, you need to be at a calorie deficit and eat lots of protein to maintain or build muscle.

But my biggest problem with the calorie counting approach is that it’s just way too strict.

Every single day, you weigh out your meals to get its exact macros and calories, which becomes almost impossible if you eat outside.

After seeing me miserable, one of my bodybuilder friends recommended the keto diet.

Mind you, he’s not on the diet because his sport requires a different eating regiment, but he says it’s worked wonders for those who are just looking to shed a couple of pounds.

At first, I wasn’t really convinced, especially with what I know of keto diet.

Too many Instagram ads and influencers simplify Keto into “eat more fats and eat less carbs” without understanding what goes on in the body.

As a result, you have people who have zero understanding of nutrition and food science swap out bacon with their grains and call it a success.

I think a big reason why ketosis doesn’t work for people is not because their bodies aren’t able to shift to a different fat burning mechanism, but because they don’t have the right foods that will bring them into a state of ketosis.

For the most part, the other programs only touch on ketosis at the surface level, failing to guide the people every step of the way.

That’s what makes the 28-Day keto Challenge different from all the others. This isn’t just a diet, it’s a plan.

This guide goes beyond the recipes and treats ketosis as a lifestyle.

Everything You Get With the 28-Day Keto Challenge

1) 10 Expert Guides

The 28-Day Keto Challenge comes with 10 different guides touching on various aspects of the Keto lifestyle. One book talks about intermittent fasting and how it could boost your metabolism and improve your results, while another one talks about macronutrients and how to measure them.

The other books include:

  • Keto Diet Basics: A quick background on the keto diet, including 13 quick tips and how it started
  • Eating Well on Keto: Your recipe companion for success. You get 10 breakfast, 14 lunch, and 14 dinner recipes. I got two free dessert books (Keto Peanut Butter Treats & Keto Chocolate Treats) after my purchase so make sure to make the most out of the promos when they have them.
  • Staying in Ketosis: This is the most important aspect of the ketogenic diet. This guide provides actionable tips in ensuring all your hard work doesn’t go to waste.
  • Mastering Macros: Fats is just one of the three important macros to measure. This guide teaches you how to achieve and maintain ketosis by eating the correct balance of fats, carbs, and protein everyday.
  • Beating Keto Flu: A guide helping you get over the inevitable keto flu in the quickest way possible.
  • Intermittent Fasting: A quick refresher on intermittent fasting and its role in staying in ketosis.
  • Social Situations: Probably one of my top three guides in the series. It helps you navigate going out with friends while staying consistent with your diet.
  • Guilt-Free Desserts
  • Yummy Avocado Recipes
  • Keto Supplements Guide

This challenge sets you up for success by giving you all the information you need to know so you can only make informed and sustainable decisions moving forward.

2) A guide from start to finish

When done correctly, the keto diet can result in significant changes in your body composition. But when done haphazardly, you might see an increase in your bad cholesterol, which could prove detrimental to your health.

Achieving ketosis is particularly tricky, especially if you’re doing it for the very first time. With the 28-Day Keto Challenge, I felt more confident knowing that I was on the right track. The program comes with a 28-day meal plan. It never felt too restrictive or too new, which made it easier to stick with it.

3) Managing the keto flu

The keto flu is a normal part of the keto diet. Some people have to deal with more adverse reactions from switching over to a high-fat, low-carb diet, while others experience it to a lesser degree.

Common symptoms include irritability, constipation, foggy brain, headache, and fatigue.

When I went through the keto challenge, I experienced bouts of headache and fatigue. I instantly knew it was ketosis kicking in.

Frankly, I don’t think I would have persevered without the plan. Having a structure to the diet really made me stick around until the end.

The dedicated guide called Managing Ketosis is a crucial component of the challenge that’s lacking in every other keto program I’ve seen.

So if you’ve heard things about the keto flu and wonder how your body will respond to it, the 28-Day Keto Challenge guides you from start to finish, from flu to weight loss.

Is the 28-Day Keto Challenge Worth It?

For just $37, I think the challenge was absolutely worth it. If anything, I think it’s incredibly underpriced.

I instantly received ten different guides touching on the different aspects of the keto diet, including a recipe list so I could easily plan my meals.

The recipes are completely accessible either. All the ingredients are affordable and easy to acquire.

For any ingredients that I couldn’t find, I just found alternatives in my pantry so I could stay consistent.

To be honest, I thought not having a trainer or any sort of one-on-one support would make this challenge impossible, but a week in I realized that’s what makes this challenge motivating.

With all the guides, you really don’t need extra help from a trainer or anyone else. You already have the tools and information to shape your body however you want.

It’s just up to you to bring yourself closer to success.

The keto lifestyle is already well-hyped as it is, but I will say that seeing the results yourself is just unbelievable.

I’ve seen people online go two to four sizes down in just a matter of weeks, but seeing that happen to yourself feels a little like a miracle.

I guess it’s just hard to believe because I didn’t feel restricted.

I was able to lose 15 lbs in a month just by following this program. Not once did I feel hungry or deprived of my favorite foods.

And I’m not joking about how fast it is – most students of this challenge have reported to lose an average of 2-3 inches off their waist in just a week or two.

I personally found myself looking leaner and slimmer just halfway through the program, and I felt like I was 5 years younger after the full month.

The 28-Day Keto Challenge didn’t really feel so much like a challenge because the guide pretty much sets you up for success.

The only way to fail is to stray away from the program and not follow its recommendations and guidelines.

It’s definitely worth trying, if just to prove to yourself that you can lose that much weight in such a short period of time.
